Oasis Performance analysis

As well as displaying the skill and talent of the performers playing their instruments, we want to display the relation between the band members by filming a candid section at the beginning. This will make the video seem more intimate.

Our Chosen Song

This is now our chosen song that we shall use in our project. We chose this because it was a fast paced song that we thought could be used to create a compelling and exiting music video.

Equipment

As we want to have a haze effect in our video we will need to purchase a smoke machine. This will allow us to add dramatic effects to our production such as the creative lighting used in the image beneath taken from Blade Runner.

Lighting:

We also need a well planned lighting setup to make our production look professional. To do this we want to use a mix of large square barn door lights that will produce large amounts of light to light the whole scene, also we want to use spotlights to focus on specific members of the band and to single out the different performers.

Clothing:

We also want to have matching set of costumes for all the band members. This would be white shirts and black jeans

Location Scouting

As a group, we have decided that we may choose to use the Attenborough Hall as our main location to film our performance shots. We want to blackout the hall and use studio lights to creatively light our subjects. We are able to create the darkness in the hall as it has black out curtains.

Paul Cripps

Today we had a talk from Paul Cripps, a production designer that has worked on many high profile television dramas, such as Skins and Bones. He gave us specific advice on how to make our shots look as professional as possible. He said that we should backlight the actors during our campfire shots as we want to make sure we don't have light fall off from the front of the actors face to the back.

Album Promotion analysis

Disclosure:
Disclosure have are currently promoting their new album in various ways through their website.
Instead of going straight to the websites home page the viewer is directed to this page where the new music is played in the background and the track listing, release date and album artwork is shown.

On the home page there are numerous links to picture galleries, tour dates, current music and current music videos. These are all displayed and done through other services such as Spotify, Instagram and youtube. This diverse use of social media platforms allows the artists to reach out to more people.

Here is an example of how Spotify is used on the website.

On the pop up screen at the beginning of the website there is this message.

This is telling us that the music videos are going to be linked in a story. The first two videos that have been released do back this up as they are set in the same fictional city and include the same main actor.

It also includes hints of the album artwork in multiple shots in both videos.

Music Video analysis - The Killers / Foo Fighters

Looking at numerous music videos from multiple genres we have decided that we want to do a narrative video with (possibly) some performance.  A possible song that we have thought about using is When We Were Young by The Killers. The slow build up would be perfect to build up anticipation for a certain event that might occur when the music shifts to a faster pace. We considered other songs and genres such as some Arctic Monkeys songs, however we believe that it would be very difficult to make the performance look believable .

For the performance section of the video we would need to shoot it in a way that would make it look interesting and believable. Looking at examples of performance videos, i can see that they are usually have fast pace close up shots that go with the pace of the music.

In other cases, with slower music there are longer takes and wider shots

The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs which recur across their work (Visual style)
